A Good Night’s Sleep for You and Baby
Every new parent knows the struggle of getting up every two hours to a crying baby. You’ll get advice left and right from friends, family, and even strangers, which can get pretty overwhelming. They’ll tell you their opinions on everything from diaper changing to swaddling, to bathing, and boy will they have a lot of views. Everyone agrees on the quintessential item every parent needs for their newborn is to find and buy one of the best baby cribs. They’re so important in fact; people have been using them since the 19th century. The design, however, has continued to change since its invention and now they’re safer than ever. This guide is designed to help clear up what are the best baby cribs available for your loved one, as well as help you understand the facts.
Our baby crib reviews cover the best convertible cribs as these seem to be the most popular choices amongst parents. To see the cribs for sale I personally recommend, keep reading (or grab the best baby crib here). But first, some educational topics on all things baby beds.
What is a Baby Crib?
Odds are you probably already have a pretty good idea of what a baby crib is. A crib is a bed designed specifically for babies. It has large, usually wooden, slats on the side. The slats are designed to keep baby from rolling out or getting out.
Why Use a Baby Crib?
Cribs are meant to keep baby safe all night and make your life easier. By using a crib, you’ll be able to get a few hours of time to yourself, something that is very rare in the first few years. During the day, letting baby nap in the crib allows you to do house chores- just be careful about that loud vacuum with a sleeping baby- read a book, watch a movie, or catch a quick nap, all without having to worry whether baby is safe. At night, cribs are great to give you and your partner some alone time. And you don’t have to worry about crushing your baby like if they were sleeping beside you in bed.
Safety is incredibly important when it comes to buying the best baby cribs; you want to look out for your little one. Luckily, the government’s got your back. In 2011 the government made crib safety a priority, so any crib made after that year has to pass all U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s standards. If you’re getting a hand-me-down crib or using the one your parents used with you, you should make sure it passes the following guidelines:
- Slats should be no more than 2 3⁄8 inches apart.
- Corner posts should be flush with, or no more than 1⁄16 inch higher, than end panels.
- All bolts and screwed must be screwed tightly and pose no sharp areas that could pinch or poke baby.
- Wood should have no cracks or splinters.
- Old cribs could have lead paint (which has been proven to be extremely dangerous) refurnish the crib if necessary and make sure to use lead-free paint. Any crib should be repainted if the paint is chipping, lead-free or not.
- Do not use drop-side cribs.
- Avoid baby cribs with decorative headboard and footboard cutouts.
Other guidelines everyone should follow even if you get a new crib include:
- Make sure to use a firm mattress that fits snugly in the crib; you shouldn’t be able to fit more than two fingers between the mattress and the side of the crib.
- Don’t use bumpers.
- Never ever put toys, stuffed animals, pillows, or loose blankets in the crib with baby.
I know that last one can be hard to follow. Maybe baby has a favorite toy that soothes her, or you’re worried about her getting cold, but I assure you she’s okay. Adding toys, pillows, and blankets pose a serious suffocation hazard. For further reading, have a read of these crib safety tips from cpsc.gov. I found Amazon to be the best place for both luxury and cheap cribs for sale and I have to say, the range of products they offer is fantastic. Covered here are five of my personal favorites.
This crib from Delta Children is made from sturdy, high-quality wood and comes in a beautiful espresso cherry, dark cherry, and black finish. Some features of this crib include:

The crib also allows you to choose one of three reclining positions for the mattress, ensuring your little one is as comfortable as possible.
Probably the best part about this crib is its versatility. Like its name suggests, it’s not only a crib, it converts into a toddler bed, a day bed, and a full-size bed, growing with your little one. When you convert it to a full-size bed, it even has a headboard. This is extremely nice because it means you won’t have to keep buying expensive beds when your child grows. With this single stylish crib, your set for years.
The 4-in-1 is also extremely easy to assemble; it even comes with tools. It can hold up to 35 pounds and is pretty lightweight, weighing only 62 pounds. The crib also comes with free part replacement from Amazon and a one-year warranty from Delta Children.
The next crib on our list comes from Stork Craft, a company that’s become synonymous with baby gear. It is made from incredibly strong wood and comes in either an espresso or cherry finish. Whichever one you choose it’s guaranteed to be immaculate. Other great features of the Portofino 4-in-1 Fixed side convertible crib and changer include:

This crib, like the last one, is JPMA certified. This means it meets all of the CPSC and ASTM safety standards which ensure your baby is safe and can get a peaceful slumber. It is also convertible to a toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed. Its convertibility makes it very economical and practical, especially for new parents on a budget. This crib too has the ability to recline the mattress in three different positions, maximizing comfort and ensuring a good night’s sleep.
What sets this crib apart is its attached changing table. The changing table is specifically designed with your baby’s safety in mind; it has a deep surface for added stability and security during diaper changes. It’s not only a changing table but also a nightstand for when you convert the bed. It has drawers for storage and can easily be detached. Included with this crib is also a waterproof vinyl changing pad, making cleaning a breeze, especially when your little one has an accident while you’re changing them.
With all its great features, I could only find one thing wrong with this crib. And that is that it requires assembly. This may be a pain in the butt with your pregnant belly getting in the way, but that’s what dads are for! Take a break and put your feet up and let someone else do the assembly. It is also insured with a one-year warranty from Stork Craft.

This beautiful crib comes in an espresso, grey, and the sunshine finish. Like other cribs, the Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib is JPMA certified. It also has a high weight capacity of 50 pounds, making it usable for many years. The four position mattress support system also means your child will have a variety of options and will be as comfortable as possible. The last crib on our list is another one from Stork Craft. Their Tuscany 4-in-1 Convertible Crib includes great features such as:
- Easy convertibility to toddler bed, day bed, and full-size bed
- JPMA certified
- Adjustable three position mattress base support
- Solid stationary sides
These functions are pretty standard but are still extremely useful, landing it on our list of best baby cribs. The convertibility allows the bed to grow with your little one, and you don’t have to worry about them being safe because it meets all safety requirements and will keep your little one safe all night. As your child grows, they’ll change, and maybe what was once comfortable isn’t anymore. But that’s no reason to get a new bed, because this crib allows you to alter the position of your mattress, so if your child is ever uncomfortable, you have options. The solid stationary bases are also great because they add stability and support that will never give. This crib too comes with a one-year limited warranty.
My Personal Recommendation
I know buying cribs can be overwhelming; you want the absolute best for your baby. The crib I recommend, and personally use, is the Delta Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib. That’s not to say all the cribs I covered here aren’t great, they are, I just prefer this one for its sleek styling and color choices. It is so easy to assemble and extremely durable. I just recently converted it to a toddler bed and conversion is just as comfortable as first time assembly. I also love its beautiful finish, just look how good it looks in this room! I’ve never had any problems with it, and I’m sure you won’t either.
